Dr. Filipe Clemente is a Portuguese sport scientist and applied researcher whose work sits at the intersection of performance analysis and sports training, with a strong emphasis on how teams can monitor training, interpret match demands, and improve learning and performance in football and other team sports.
He currently serves as Editor-in-Chief of Football Studies (since July 2025), contributing to the development and dissemination of research and applied insights within the football science community. Alongside this editorial role, he has been a long-term Scientific Advisor to JOHAN Sports (since 2016), supporting scientific projects linked to performance analysis and training monitoring—helping bridge academic standards with the realities of applied practice.
Clemente is also an established researcher at the Instituto de Telecomunicações (since 2013), with work that includes sport technology and applied analytics in team sports. In coach education, he has served as a lecturer for coaching courses with the Associação de Futebol de Coimbra (since 2014), contributing to the translation of evidence-based concepts into practical coaching methodology.
From 2015 to 2025, he worked as an assistant professor at the Polytechnic Institute of Viana do Castelo, teaching areas such as performance analysis, training monitoring, sports training, exercise physiology, and kinesiology—reflecting his broad expertise across both analysis and physical training domains.
His academic background includes a PhD in Sport Sciences (Sport Training) from the Universidade de Coimbra(2012–2015), with research focused on advancing match analysis and understanding football players, as well as a post-doctoral period in sports engineering (2015–2016) exploring topics such as network analysis in team sports.
He works fluently in Portuguese, English, and Spanish, and is widely recognised for turning complex performance data into practical frameworks that coaches and practitioners can apply to training design, monitoring, and competitive preparation.
