Dr. Martin Macháček

Dr. Martin Macháček is a Czech sport psychologist and practitioner in sport psychology and counselling, combining applied work in elite football with leadership roles that support the wider profession nationally. He has been a Sport Psychologist at SK Slavia Praha since July 2019, based in Prague, delivering ongoing psychological support across the performance environment and contributing to the club’s long-term development of athletes and staff.

Alongside his club role, Macháček has maintained an active private practice as a self-employed sport psychologist since June 2017, working with athletes and performers across contexts. He also brings organisational and consultancy experience from his time as a Consultant and Psychologist at SMARTER Training & Consulting s.r.o. (June 2017–November 2018), supporting performance, learning, and behavioural change within professional settings.

Beyond direct delivery, he holds leadership responsibilities within the profession. He is currently Vice Chairman of the Association of Sports Psychologists (March 2023–present) and sits on the Management Board of “Trénujeme s respektem” (April 2024–present), reflecting a broader commitment to ethical, evidence-informed practice and the development of sport psychology standards in Czech sport.

Academically, he is completing a PhD in Sport Psychology at Charles University (2020–present), with a research focus on pre-competition states in top athletes. His practitioner profile is strengthened by formal therapeutic training, having completed psychotherapeutic training with the Czech Association for Body-Psychotherapy (2018–2023). He also holds a UEFA A coaching licence, issued via the Prague Football Association, giving him an applied coaching lens that supports effective integration into football environments.
