Professor Darren Paul

Professor Darren Paul is a sports scientist and physical performance coach specialising in soccer-specific monitoring and game-related physical training in elite football.

He is currently a Performance Coach at YORTAGO (Aug 2021–present), working in a hybrid capacity from Florida. Previously, he spent a decade at Aspetar Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Hospital (Feb 2011–Jul 2021) as a Sports Scientist and Physical Performance Coach, supporting high-performance athletes within a leading sports medicine environment.

His earlier applied work includes roles as a Sports Scientist and Physical Performance Coach with Middlesbrough Football Club (Aug 2006–Jun 2009), alongside academic appointments as Senior Lecturer at Southampton Solent University (Sep 2009–Feb 2011) and Associate Lecturer at Teesside University (Aug 2007–Jul 2009).

Academically, he completed a PhD in Sports and Exercise Science at University of Copenhagen (2014–2021) and also holds an MSc in Postgraduate Teaching and Learning in Higher Education from Teesside University (2008–2009). His work sits at the intersection of applied monitoring, performance conditioning, and elite football training methodology.
