Jack Christopher

Jack Christopher is a long-standing high-performance practitioner at Chelsea FC, recognised for his work in academy sport science, physical development, and integrated performance support across the youth development pathway. He currently serves as Head of Performance Support for the Chelsea FC Academy (July 2024–present), following five years as Head of Academy Sport Science and Physical Fitness (August 2019–July 2024). His progression through the club includes roles spanning 1st Team Sport Science and Nutrition (July 2018–August 2019) and Lead Sport Scientist & Athletic Development Coach for the 9–16 age groups (July 2017–July 2018), where he supported phase-specific athletic development and helped drive the continued implementation and evaluation of a movement curriculum aligned to long-term athlete development.

Earlier in his Chelsea pathway, he combined performance and nutrition responsibilities as Lead U16/U15 Strength and Conditioning Coach and Academy Nutritionist (August 2014–July 2017). In this period, his work included planning and delivering individual gym programmes, warm-ups, conditioning, and recovery protocols, alongside detailed GPS and heart-rate reporting and load monitoring to support training design and match preparation. On the nutrition side, he played a central role in developing and implementing the academy nutrition philosophy, delivering education programmes across the 9–21 age range, conducting anthropometric testing, and providing individualised nutritional support to players. He began his full-time Chelsea journey as an Academy Sport Scientist (July 2012–August 2014) after completing a Sport Science Internship (September 2011–August 2012), gaining extensive experience in daily GPS/HR monitoring, rehabilitation support alongside medical staff, hydration and osmolality monitoring, force-plate jump testing analysis, and academy-wide physical testing processes. Alongside this, he also coached within the club’s development centre environment as a part-time coach (September 2012–March 2014), strengthening his understanding of how athletic development principles land within football coaching practice.

Beyond Chelsea, Christopher has also contributed to player development through coaching and consultancy roles, including co-founding MyPerform as a performance coach (June 2021–July 2024). Earlier experiences include football coaching with UK Elite Soccer (June 2011–September 2011), and a part-time academy strength and conditioning role at Derby County (October 2010–April 2011), supporting youth conditioning with an emphasis on core stability, proprioception, flexibility, and foundational physical literacy.

Academically, he holds a Master’s degree in High Performance Sport from Australian Catholic University (Distinction, 2018–2020) and a Postgraduate Diploma in Applied Sport & Exercise Nutrition from the International Society of Sports Nutrition (Distinction, 2016–2017). He is also a CASES Accredited Sport and Exercise Scientist (issued September 2020) and holds the CISSN certification through the International Society of Sports Nutrition. His work sits at the intersection of strength training and athletic development, with a strong applied focus on efficiency and modern periodisation methods, velocity-based training, and on-field football conditioning methodology—connecting gym-based physical qualities to the movement demands and tactical realities of academy football.
